BMW Championship Hosted at Conway Farms (Lake Forest, Illinois)
Albatross
Kevin Chappell: +6,000 Outright
Winner
After qualifying for his first President’s Cup and representing
America, Kevin Chappell has taken this week’s long shot for the outright
winner. It’s often easy to look at the odds for the field and imagine what you
could do with $3,000 on a $10 bet when Wesley Bryan trick shots his way to
victory. However, Kevin Chappell is a perfect pick at 60/1, as he is trying to prove why he
deserves to be on team USA and payback for slipping in last year’s Tour
Championship. Most people prefer Church’s Chicken on Sundays, but I’ll take
Chappell at the Farm.
Eagle
Paul Casey: +2,500 First Round Leader
What’s not to like about a top 10 scorer this year, solid iron play
throughout the first two rounds of the FedEx cup, and a caddy who rocks Jordans
on the course. Paul Casey has not lived up to his incredibly overhyped statistics on the Tiger Woods video game series, but has made quite the splash
since coming from over the pond. Casey’s putting let him down in Boston last
week, but has still been a strong scorer in the first two rounds this year. Just
like the Red Coats from Great Britain, Casey can get off to a hot start but can’t
seem to finish what he started. However, 25/1 odds is worth going for the green
in two this weekend.
Birdie
Daniel Berger: +1,000 Top 5 finish
Victoria Slater, enough said. Berger is winning on and off the course,
but a 16 under performance at the 2015 BMW Championship and a victory in the current
year make him an easy five footer, right edge for this week’s Birdie pick. I
would not be surprised to see Daniel win outright but the safe bet is a top 5
finish.
Par
Jon Rahm: +350 Top 5 finish
This is not your epic sand save or 30 foot grinder to save par. This is
your sure bet, tap in par, after just rolling the Birdie past. Jon Rahm has
been one of the most exciting players on the tour this year and can absolutely
rip the golf ball with a shortened back swing. It would not have been
surprising if Rahm would have been beaten Sergio to a Major victory, but even a
blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Rahm sank in the Boston Harbor over
Labor Day weekend, but one thing is for sure... his blonde bombshell from ASU
can save him with her safety flotation devices and provide the bounce back for this weekend.
Bogey
Jason Day: +1,200 Outright Win and +220 Top 5 Finish
What happened to Jason Day? I have often found myself asking this
question and now only get irritated watching his 20 minute pre-shot routine. We
have seen glimmer of hope for Jason the past few weeks, and the dominating
performance in 2015 (a 61 on day one and a -22, 6 shot victory over DB) have propelled
him to a Vegas favorite. However, I am not ready to buy into the Aussie. Unlike
Nike, who has seen three poster children slip from the top ranking in the world.
Fellow Nike team member Michelle Wie is trying to fit in with the boys and the
PGA tour, but for the love of god do not let her putting stroke ever be
mimicked on tour.
